Taking your dog on vacation in the USA: Entry requirements

If you want to enter the United States with your dog, you should consider the country's entry requirements. It is not always enough to show your pet ID and certain vaccinations - in some areas you also have to expect a mandatory quarantine. If you want to vacation with your dog in the USA, you should prepare the trip thoroughly. Check that your four-legged friend's pet passport is up-to-date and find out which vaccinations your dog must receive in accordance with the entry requirements. With the dog to the USA: important requirements

The U.S. immigration regulations require a health certificate in English that your dog has no contagious diseases. In addition, your four-legged friend must have been vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days before arrival. The vaccination must not be older than twelve months.

Puppies under the age of three months are excluded from rabies vaccination. Dogs that can be proven to come from areas that have been declared rabies-free by the public health service, or that have been in such areas for at least six months, do not need to be vaccinated against rabies. For vacation in the United States, you must have a valid pet passport with a detailed description of your dog, its date of birth and the date of the last rabies vaccination.

Entry requirements for Hawaii and other islands

If you plan to travel to Hawaii, Guam, or American Samoa, you will need to be prepared for tougher entry requirements than in the rest of the United States. If you want to travel to the United States of America, you must expect your dog to remain in quarantine for up to 120 days before you can actually enter the country. If it is determined here on site that your dog is in poor health, further tests may be required of your animal travel partner - and therefore costs for you as the owner.
